Examination of Rumination Levels in Male Football Players
Abstract
The aim of this research is to examine the levels of rumination among male football players in relation to different variables (age, years of sport, position, education). A total of 161 football players participating in the study were from Yalova province. The data collection tools used were a personal information form and the "Rumination Scale in Sports Competitions." SPSS software was utilized for data analysis. According to the results obtained, as the athletes' ages increase, their levels of rumination decrease, while younger athletes tend to have higher levels of rumination. A significant difference was found between high school graduates and postgraduate graduates regarding educational status, while no significant difference was identified between years of sport, position, and rumination. In conclusion, it is observed that as athletes age, their tendencies to dwell on past mistakes, think about missed opportunities, and engage in continuous negative thoughts and scenario analysis decrease. The inexperience of high school students appears to lead to increased rumination, while the mature and rational thinking styles of those with postgraduate degrees seem to reduce their levels of rumination.
